I saw the previews and had to see the movie because Don Cheadle was in it. Based on the life of Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene, Jr., the film introduced me to a personality I had only vaguely remembered hearing of before. I didn’t know much about Petey Green so I went online and found a video of him on YouTube demonstrating how to eat a watermelon. This had that old Sanford & Son, 63rd & Halsted in Chicago type of feel to it. Unfortunately, I passed on it at the theaters. When it came out on DVD, I grabbed it off the shelf at Blockbusters and LOVED it. Chiwetel Ejiofor, who I had seen in American Gangster, Serenity, and Children of Men, and enjoyed his acting, does a wonderful job here playing program director Dewey Hughes of radio station WOL. Taraji P. Henson is simply hot, with honorable mentions going to the rest of the cast. Bottom line: “Be true to yourself.”
